Terminator is back 3:)

Posted in

TERMINATOR 5 has been rumoured and discussed frequently since TERMINATOR SALVATION hit the cinemas in 2009. The rumours added momentum when Arnold Schwarzenegger ended his term as governor and returned to acting full time, but there’s since been nothing concrete. The rights for the franchise recently switched hands when it was reported that Annapurna Pictures and Skydance Productions finally managed to get a deal sorted. Now with everything in that area settled, the two companies are moving forward creatively by hiring writers Laeta Kalogridis (AVATAR, SHUTTER ISLAND) and Patrick Lussier (DRIVE ANGRY, MY BLOODY VALENTINE) to create a draft. FAST FIVE director Justin Lin was at one point attached to direct a sequel to the franchise but it looks unclear whether he’ll do so. What seems more clear is that Schwarzenegger will be a part of the project in one way or another.

Personally, I actually liked TERMINATOR SALVATION. It was a good action film; I thought it was a smart choice to try something new and set it post-robot uprising, with Sam Worthington working well in the lead role. Where exactly you go from this point onwards is a bit unclear to me, but with time travel already an established part of the franchise, I’m sure you’d be able to find a way. I wouldn’t say that I’m peeing my pants in excitement over this, but it’s enough to peek my interest. We’ll bring you any developments in the project right here on THN.
